On November 27th SIMMETRY held the seminar Right and access to food: is it for everyone? Reflections on the SIMMETRY Project, at the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of the University of Porto. This event’s goals were, on one hand, the presentation of the project and its ongoing achievements and, on the other hand, facilitating the space for reflection and discussion around the access to an adequate nutrition. There were 35 people involved, among guests, partners, students and wider community.

On the November 10th of 2015, during the morning,  SIMETRIA’s team hosted in Matosinhos an important visit of representatives from one of the donor countries (Solfrid Johansen, from Norway), from the National Focal Point (Carlos Torres) and from the program operators (Isabel Oliveira, Rute Ribeiro e Inês Ferreira). The visitors assisted and intervened in one training session directed to 16 professionals of ADEIMA ​(Association for the Integrated Development of Matosinhos) and, later, met with SIMETRIA’s team. There were discussed some aspects regarding the development of the project, namely the preliminary results and achieved goals, the main difficulties found and the upcoming activities.

In the 15th of September, SIMMETRY was at the workshop “Results Communication”, promoted by the Norwegian Embassy in Lisbon and by the EEA Grants National Focus Point, The work session involved 120 people, with the objective of bethinking the communication strategy and its operationalization. Additionally, there were practical group exercises and the presentation of good practices of national EEA Grants projects.

The SYMMETRY project, funded by the Public Health Initiatives Program, under the EEA Grants 2009-2014, is being implemented since April 2015 with several ongoing interventions in the field.

Up until now, 74 professionals have been trained by the ““Intervention strategies with vulnerable groups: nutrition and access to health" program. This course, credited by the Continuing Education Office of the Faculty of Psychology and Educational Sciences of Porto, of 51 hours, not only includes the nutrition issues but also bring to discussion the role of citizenship, communication, interpersonal relationships and social economy in the reduction of asymmetries.

Starting in September, there will be training cycles in specific agreed organizations: Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Maia, STASSA – Associação de Solidariedade Social de Areias, ADEIMA – Associação para o Desenvolvimento Social de Matosinhos, Fundação Padre Luís and Cruz Vermelha – Fafe office. There will also be three training cycles in the cities of Aveiro, Guimarães and Vila Real, based on local social networking.

At the same time, its running the consultancy process with the Centro Paroquial de Promoção Social Rainha Santa Mafalda (Patronato de Arouca), with the implementation of local intervention plans that aim to raise knowledge about nutrition and health and to improve professional practices. More organizations will be involved on the next quarter.

SIMMETRY will start another training cycle on September 15th in Santo Tirso, at S. Tiago - Associação de Solidariedade Social de Areias, a local charity. Training will run outside working hours and is directed exclusively to professionals of this organization.
