Project's Framework:

SYMMETRY – Nutritional and Social Equality Promotion Project. This project is promoted by the Portuguese League for Social Prophylaxis (LPPS) and funded by the Public Health Initiatives Program, under the financial mechanism EEA Grants 2009-2014, and the Health System Central Administration (ACSS) which is the Program’s Operator. It aims to qualify professionals to undertake work practices that can help to reduce social and economic inequalities, where access to health through adequate nutrition is concerned. According to the goals of the National Program for the Promotion of Healthy Eating, SYMMETRY provides consultancy for organizations to improve local practices, and training for professionals, as key influential agents for vulnerable groups, improving their knowledge and attitudes.

The project´s main goals are: 
 
• To improve the knowledge on the health situation of the Portuguese population and the development of public health practices and recommendations, based on findings and evidence.
 
• To increase knowledge, and promote a healthier attitude of socially and economically vulnerable groups regarding nutrition, as a result of the improvement of professional practices in this field.
